Yeovil businesses celebrate Armed Forces Day with a difference
Released On 23rd Jun 2020
This year Yeovil will be celebrating Armed Forces Day with a difference, with businesses and organisations coming together to support the Armed Forces community, in an event that will be hosted entirely online.
Despite all physical events being cancelled due to COVID-19, a number of Yeovil businesses have teamed up to take part in this digital event, including Yeovil Chamber, Love Yeovil, Leonardo, Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (RFCA), Somerset County Council, Justelle Marketing & Media, Pardoes Solicitors, CETSAT Ltd, Wilcox Young Partnership, Rebecca Bevins HR and Kontrolit.
The team have been working with businesses to create videos of support that will be shared on social media throughout the week. They are encouraging the people of Yeovil to get involved by sharing videos and images of support onto the Facebook event, using #SaluteOurForces and #AFDYeovil2020.
The digital event was held as part of Armed Forces Day, the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including currently serving troops, Service families, Reservists, veterans and cadets.
Similar events have been taking place across the UK, enabling people to show their support from home, and giving a much-valued morale boost for Armed Forces personnel and their families at this very difficult time.
Rachael Brannagan, Regional Employer Engagement Director for Wessex RFCA, said about the event, “It has been great to work on this event with other Yeovil businesses. I have been overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm that has been shown.
“I know that this show of support will be a real moral boost for members of the Armed Forces in our local community. Even during the current Coronavirus crisis, personnel from the nearby RNAS Yeovilton have been deployed overseas, leaving many families to cope on their own at this incredibly difficult time.”
This year, Armed Forces Day is held on Saturday 27 June 2020, with online events celebrating the whole of the Armed Forces community taking place each day in the week leading up to the event.
