Summer at Yeovil Art Space
Released On 9th Aug 2021
Summer at Yeovil Art Space
July has been a busy month and we are now fully open with our newly refurbished gallery space and welcome area. Along with a summer programme of events, workshops and exhibitions we are also delighted to share with you our first newsletter.
Our first exhibition in the new gallery space, ‘Shapes of Yeovil’ by You & Me Architecture, was a wonderful start to the summer programme. Commissioned by South Somerset District Council as part of the Yeovil Refresh public realm project, You & Me Architecture and The Poetry Machine with Beth Calverley have shared with us the community consultation work undertaken this year in Yeovil, and the initial artwork designs which have been produced as a result. Thank you to all those involved in the exhibition and with the project at large, this is one to watch with some exciting outcomes for the Yeovil community.
Now looking forward to August and our next exhibition 'Re-imagining Nature' opens from 4 August until 11 September. The exhibition is part of the Somerset Reacquainted tour in partnership with Somerset Art Works and will show a collection of new work by more than 20 artists in Somerset, featuring painting, photography, sculpture, video, sound and mixed-media work responding to the climate emergency, conservation and biodiversity. Somerset Reacquainted itself has been a growing path of discovery and rediscovery for artists in the county, stemming from the initial stages of lockdown last summer and is a powerful recording of the last 18 months.
